Cupcakes are becoming one of the rising trends in the world of desserts in the Philippines today.  There are a number of special occasions such as birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, wherein someone can give this as a gift.  And looking at this trend and the number of possibilities you can make of this, building a business around this dessert looks very much profitable.  This is small business idea has so much potential.

There are a lot of flavors that are being sold in the market today and among the favorites is the chocolate cupcake.

There are a actually a number of Chocolate Cupcake Recipes that you can make yourself and then sell it afterwards.  But before you start selling any chocolate cupcake recipe that you’ve made, you should first try one out and perfect it.  Maybe asking for other people’s opinion may give an idea if selling it to others would be a hit.

Chocolate Cupcake Recipe 01

This recipe makes about 16 cupcakes

Chocolate Cupcake Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (50 grams) Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1-1/3 cups (175 grams) all purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling hot water
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (200 grams) granulated white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Chocolate Fudge Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1-1/3 cups (160 grams) confectioners (powdered or icing) sugar, sifted
  • 4 ounces (120 grams) unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 2/3 cup (150 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature

Making the Chocolate Cupcakes:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375° F (190° C). Lightly butter or line 16 muffin cups with paper liners.
  2. Mix the cocoa powder with the boiling hot water.  Stir until smooth and then let it cool to room temperature.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together.
  4. Then using your electric mixer or a hand mixer, beat the butter and sugar until its light and fluffy.  Add the eggs one at a time, beating the mixture until smooth.  Scrape down the sides of your bowl as needed.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  6. Mix in the flour mixture and beat until almost all are incorporated.  Add the cooled cocoa mixture and stir everything until smooth.
  7. Fill each muffin cup about 2/3 full with the batter.  Bake it for about 16-20 minutes or until risen, springy to the touch, and a toothpick inserted into a cupcake comes out clean.  Be careful though not to overbake or the chocolate cupcakes will come out dry.
  8. Remove the chocolate cupcakes from the oven and place them on a wire rack to cool.
  9. Once the chocolate cupcakes are completely cool, add chocolate frosting.  You can either spread the frosting with a small spatula or by piping.

Making Chocolate Frosting:

  1. Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl placed over a pan of boiling water.
  2. Remove bowl from the heat and let it cool to room temperature.
  3. With and electric mixer or a hand mixer, beat the butter until smooth and creamy (about 1 minute).
  4. Add the sugar and beat the mixture until it is light and fluffy (around 2 minutes).
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  6. Add the chocolate and beat on low speed until full mixed.
  7. Increase the speed to medium-high and beat until frosting is smooth and glossy (around 2-3 minutes).

Chocolate Cupcake Recipe 02

This chocolate cupcake recipe makes 1 dozen

Chocolate Cupcake Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Buttercream Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 4 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1-1/3 cups of unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2-3 tablespoons of milk

Making the Chocolate Cupcakes:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F.  Line a 12 piece cupcake tin with liners and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt.  Then set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and both sugars.  Add the egg and vanilla.  Whisk until smooth.
  4. Add the dry ingredients and mix everything just until they are almost all incorporated.  Add the buttermilk and mix everything quickly so you don’t over mix.
  5. Using an ice cream scoop, fill your muffin tin with the batter.  Bake them for about 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean.  Be careful not to overbake.
  6. Cool the cupcakes completely before adding frosting.

Making the Buttercream Frosting:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the butter, sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Add the milk 1 tablespoon at a time and keep whisking until you get a consistent smooth and creamy frosting.
